Description: Wel-Cote Art Casting Plaster is a finely-ground, high quality casting plaster that is ideal for decorative casting, art novelties, plaques and statuary. Wel-Cote Art Casting Plaster has excellent soaking characteristics and mixes quickly to a smooth, even-pouring consistency. It contains surface hardening additives that increase chip-resistance and reduce paint absorption. When dry, articles have a bright-white color, good for decorating any way you choose. Preparation: Select a level surface where poured molds can set until dry. The area should be free of dust and dirt. Foreign particles in the mold or casting mixture will cause imperfections. Measuring & Mixing: To determine how much water is needed, fill the mold, with fresh water, and pour this amount into a measuring cup. Pour 2/3 of the water into a mixing container, and add 1 ¾ times as much Wel-Cote Art Casting Plaster as the amount of water used. Mix carefully until the mixture is "creamed". DO NOT WHIP OR BEAT AIR INTO MIXTURE. Pouring & Setting: Pour Wel-Cote Art Casting Plaster mixture into mold. Shake mold gently to eliminate air pockets. If your casting requires a hanger, insert it into the plaster immediately after pouring. Equipment: Use a clean mixing container with smooth interior and rounded interior corners, such as a bowl, pan or plastic bucket. A standard measuring cup is needed to measure by volume. A kitchen or bathroom scale will work well if measuring by weight. Use a sharp knife or wood rasp to trim edges and sandpaper to smooth the finish. There are many types, styles and shapes of molds. Beginners may want to use simple molds such as the one-piece, open-top molds. Two-pieced, closed molds and rubber, glove-like molds are also available, but not as easy to use. Once you’ve selected your mold, follow the manufacturer’s directions for use. Setting time: Heat will be generated as Wel-Cote Art Casting Plaster is setting,. When the casting cools so that it is warm to the touch, it is ready to be removed from the mold. If, however, there are thin sections or protrusions on the mold, leave casting in mold until most of the warmth has subsided. Finishes: After removal from mold, castings should be trimmed and positioned for drying. When thoroughly dry, seal with paint or clear lacquer to prevent moisture absorption and formation of mildew. Fill any holes, imperfections and voids with Wel-Cote Latex Spackling Paste, allowing a first application to dry thoroughly before a second is applied. Sand lightly to a smooth finish. Drying Time: Once casting is removed from mild, trimmed and repaired as necessary, place where air can circulate. Use a fan if the room air is damp or cool. Drying time depends on the size of the casting. Usually overnight is sufficient. To determine if casting is completely dry, set it on newspaper for 30-40 minutes. If the newspaper wrinkles under the casting, it is not dry.
