Description: Wel-Cote Coarse Ceiling Texture is a ready-to-use, easy-to-apply, versatile one coat finish for interior ceilings The texture will hide minor cracks and imperfections and it dries to an off-white, durable finish that may be painted. Wel-Cote Coarse Ceiling Texture gives you a rough, popcorn-like finish and is applied most easily when using a ¾" nap roller.

Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be sound and clean. Remove grease, soil or loose paint. Wash off all water-soluble material, such as calcimine, wallpaper paste, or glue sizing. Holes and cracks in walls and ceilings should be filled with a spackling paste or joint compound. It is necessary that all surfaces be primed with a good quality latex primer. Drywall joints should be taped and then primed. Nail heads or other exposed metal surfaces should be primed with an oil-based primer. Smooth, glossy surfaces should be sanded or treated first to dull the gloss and ensure proper adhesion. If the concrete surface is below grade and subject to moisture, treat with Wel-Cote Masonry and Basement Paint or Water Seal before priming, then apply texture. CAUTION: Surface temperature during application and drying should not go below 50° F (10° C).

Mixing: Stir thoroughly before using. Wel-Cote Coarse Texture is much thicker than ordinary paints and additional water is needed. Adjust the texture by adding approximately 1 pint of water per 2 gallons of texture. Mix until the consistency is creamy, smooth and uniform. Imagine the look and feel of a thick milkshake. Avoid over-thinning since excessive water causes cracking, poor bonding and poor hiding. Stir until consistency is smooth and uniform.

Application: The easiest way to apply the texture paint is with a brush or ¾" roller (about 1/16" to 1/8" thick). Work in small, 4’ x 4’ wall sections. Do not apply material to an entire wall or ceiling before texturing. Use a brush or trowel to work the material into the corners and along the edges.

Note: Cracking may occur if the material or texturing is applied too thickly. If minor cracking does occur, thin out the material to the consistency of paint and apply it with a brush or roller over the cracked areas as if you were applying a coat of paint. A wet rag may also be used to rub out minor cracks. Clean tools often and remove splatters with warm water. After Wel-Cote Coarse Texture dries, it may be painted with a semi-gloss paint. Painting is recommended for areas that will require a great deal of cleaning. Texture that has been thinned should be tightly resealed and used within one week. To reseal texture that has not been thinned, lay a piece of plastic directly on the texture paint and close the lid tightly. This should keep for about 2-3 months. A strong odor indicates spoilage, and the Texture should not be used.

Equipment: Use a damp 4" brush or ¾" roller to apply Texture Paint.
